My Strength and Song

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ Isaiah 12:2

The book of Isaiah is a plea from God to His rebellious children to return to their Strength and Song. However, they put their trust elsewhere. They follow religious practices without following God. Finally, they face the consequences of being slaves in a foreign land. A bleak reminder to His children that God is just in His judgement, and sin separates us from Him. Practising rituals religiously will not help unless God owns the heart. Obedience to God is the key; blessings will follow as a result.

God is our salvation – this is a constant reminder in the Bible. God always steps up to man’s desperate cry of need. Indeed, He offered us salvation while we were yet sinners(Romans 5:8). Jesus Christ is our salvation; those who trust in Him can say that the Lord is their Strength and Song. Though the Israelites had to face punishment, they became a nation just as God promised. God corrects His children(Hebrews 12:6). Those who love Him return to Him, while those who hate God will be destroyed in His wrath.

Like Israel, we tend to focus on rituals without giving God our hearts, minds and souls. Just like being in a garage doesn’t make you a car, being in church doesn’t make you a Christian. God doesn’t want anyone to perish, and His love seems reckless(2 Peter 3:9). Today, come back to your Saviour with all you have and watch as He transforms your life. Trust Him with His choices for your life, be not afraid. God has the best plan for you, and you will be saved.
