Never Weary for God

2 Thessalonians 3:13-“As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.”

Because we have received the Gospel, we are to live according to it. Doing the right and good thing is not easy. In fact it can be quite hard to follow all the time. We must think clearly about our reactions (are they right?) and about our actions too (do we take the right actions?).

There are many who can work but will not, and they ought not to be maintained in their idleness. As Believers we shouldn’t tolerate slothfulness. Sloth is a sin. Slothfulness consumes what is meant to encourage the diligent, hardworking people and to support the sick and afflicted. Hard work is what we are called to do. As Christians, it is a duty required by our calling. We are meant to be as a servant who waits for the coming of his Lord. i.e., we must work as our Lord has commanded. If we stay idle, the devil and our corrupt heart will soon find us some ‘what to do’. The mind of man is a busy thing. If it is not employed in doing good, it will do evil.

Some folks expect to be indulged in their curious and conceited temper. They meddle with the concerns of others and do much harm. All of this meddling and bad behaviour to others is a great error and abuse of religion. It is an excellent, but rare combination, to be active in our own business and yet be quiet in other people’s business. If any one refuses to work hard with quietness i.e. minding their own business, we are to warn them and separate from their company. Yet we should also seek their (change to) good by giving loving, firm reprimands.

We must have courage to do good and to bring light in others’ lives. We have to be mindful. If we aren’t careful, we can easily tire. The Lord is with you while you are with all others. Hold on to God’s way, as written in the Word, and hold on to the end. We must never give over to the behaviour or attitude of others. Nor must we ever tire in our work. We have enough time to rest when we get to Heaven. So, take this challenge – do one good thing for someone today.
