Not According to Our Sins!

He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. – Psalms 103:10

One of the prime characteristics of a parent is the love they have for their child, always wanting the best even if the child has not behaved in a form or fashion that deserves the best. If we were to get to the root of what drives them to want the best for their child, it is LOVE!.

If we humans feel this way with our limited ability, how much more does the God that created us feel toward us?
There may be times we doubt, unfaithful, and still, God shows us favour and mercy. He loves us very much that He continues to give of Himself and His goodness to help us become who He created us to be. We don’t deserve the kind of favour that God shows us.

The only time someone does not treat us as per our sins is at the foot of the cross of Calvery when we recognize our sins and respond to the call of God over our lives. This kind of favour is called unmerited favour.
Proverbs 3:11-12 says, “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”

Hebrews 12 explains this in greater depth. Sometimes, it says, bad things that happen to us are a result of God’s discipline. They are not retribution or a punishment for sin; instead, they are corrections, as a parent would correct a child. Our Lord uses corrections to build us and to increase holiness in the believer (Hebrews 12:10).
