Nurture Your Spirit

Galatians 6:18

Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

We are each a combination of body, mind, and spirit. If one is troubled, our entire life experiences imbalance. Our body is tangible – we can touch it and easily detect its issues. Our mind controls our mental health, which is universally acknowledged as pivotal to physical well-being. But what about our spirit? Though we cannot physically see or touch it, it is as real as we are. In fact, when the spirit leaves, the body becomes lifeless.

We must prioritize our spirit because it sustains our body and mind. The Bible shows us the consequence of neglecting spiritual health. King Saul lost his peace and kingdom when his spirit was troubled, and Pharaoh was led to destruction when his spirit hardened.

God is deeply attentive to the state of our spirit. In Genesis 4:5-6, God immediately recognized Cain’s fallen spirit: “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” Scripture repeatedly emphasizes nurturing a healthy spirit. Psalm 42:11 asks, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” And Proverbs 15:13 notes, “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”

Today, let us intentionally work on not letting offenses and bitterness take over our spirit. As Apostle Paul prayed in today’s scripture, may the grace of God be with our spirit. It is only by His grace that we can protect our spirit from all the attacks of the enemy. Even if we’re not being appreciated, let’s not get tired of doing good, for God will bless our spirit, body, and mind.
