Psalm 50:14 Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High.
God is good! All the time!
How often do we take the time to thank God for His goodness?
The book of Psalms is filled with words of praise and thanksgiving to God.
The Myth
Often, we assume that David was blessed beyond measure, which made it easy for him to thank God.
The Truth
On the contrary, David was the least of his brothers. While he tended to his father’s flock on the mountainside, his brothers were recruited into Israel’s army. However, God was preparing the palace for him, while he was singing songs of thanks to God on the grasslands.
David’s attitude of thanksgiving opened doors for God to pour out His favour on David’s life. But, how did David react when God shut the door on his plans and desires?
All through his reign as king, David had one burning desire – to build a temple for God. He meticulously laid out the plans and resources to bring this to pass. But God shut the door on his plans.
David wasn’t building a mansion for himself. He was doing it for God, which provided more reason for him to get upset and angry. Yet, when God told him that he wouldn’t build the temple, he said, “All this, the Lord made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.” – 1 Chronicles 28:19.
In essence, David was thanking God for enabling him to draw up a plan for the temple. It was this attitude of gratitude that elevated him from a shepherd boy to the greatest king of Israel!
The Right Attitude
Are we waiting for our blessing to enter into the habit of thanking God? Let’s change the way we think because our blessing has already been prepared. God will release it on our lives when we get into the habit of thanking Him continually.
