John 15:10
“If you keep My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commands and remain in His love.”
Obedience is the act of following rules, instructions, or commands given by an authority. Wherever we go, whether it’s schools, colleges, hospitals, or offices, we must adhere to specific rules and regulations. We may not always like or agree with certain rules. But we are still required to follow them due to the consequences or penalties associated with non-compliance. This is true in the real world.
However, biblical obedience is quite different. Our Lord does not see obedience as an obligation, but as an act of love towards Him. He wants our obedience to be rooted in love and faith, rather than in fear and compulsion. When we understand God’s nature and character, loving Him becomes easy. Jesus Christ taught us the real meaning of obedience in love when He died on the cross in keeping with His Father’s command. Even though He went through moments of pain, He was focused on obeying His Father in Heaven and achieving the purpose He was called for. By doing this, He established a new standard for us to emulate.
In life, we come across various challenges. There may be times when following God’s commandments may seem difficult or uncomfortable. In those moments, we must center ourselves in His unwavering love for us and our love for Him, allowing it to guide and strengthen us. Obedience to His Word empowers us to conquer every challenge, no matter how impossible it may seem.
