Peace for the Troubled Heart

John 14:1 NKJV

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

Jesus knew His time had come to leave this world and go to the Father. He gave final instructions to prepare His disciples for His death and resurrection – events that would change their lives forever. Just as they needed encouragement, so do we for our life’s journey.

Everyday life has its share of troubles. Potholes of sin and temptations add to the chaos of life. We may feel as if God is far off and we are alone in our struggles. The enemy’s voice will start to sound strong: Your God has left you! As children of God, how do we manoeuvre ourselves around such trials? Jesus said we will have trouble in this world, but He has overcome the world (John 16:33).

Faith in Jesus is the same as faith in God because He and the Father are one (John 10:30). Without faith in Him, our hearts will be like a troubled sea that cannot rest. His miracles are proof that He is faithful to all His promises.

When life does not go well, we can have peace by trusting Him. With God on our side, we can be brave even when we are afraid. He will give us courage in times of need. His assurance is not just for this world; it goes beyond the grave. He promised that He shall come again so we can be where He is.

You can respond to God’s faithfulness by running to His arms today and every day. The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and crushed in spirit (Psalms 34:18). Fix your eyes on Him; do not be distracted by the waves around you. He will respond to your trust by teaching you to walk on waters like Peter did!
