Serve the Lord Christ

Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24

Every day, we all engage in various forms of work, whether in an office, working from home, as stay-at-home parents, students, or job seekers. Some people juggle multiple jobs, others take on overtime assignments, while homemakers are on duty 24/7. Despite varying schedules, we all strive diligently to complete our daily responsibilities. However, following a monotonous work routine can often make us weary, grumpy, whiny, and less enthusiastic over time.

So, is there a better way to work?
Yes, there is – fix our eyes on Jesus, and we will find satisfaction and joy in everything we do! In today’s verses, Paul reminds us that our aim at work is not to pursue recognition from our peers and authorities. Instead, we shall work wholeheartedly as our ultimate goal is to serve the Lord Christ.

The amount of work or kind of chore we do is not significant, but it is worthwhile as we serve Jesus by doing it. He is the true Judge who will reward us based on our efforts. “The favor that brings promotion and power does not come from anywhere on earth, for no one exalts a person but God, the true judge of all.” – (Psalms 75:6-7 TPT).

You may be anticipating a promotion at work, better grades at school, or an upgrade from your current work status nevertheless, remember to follow biblical principles. Even if it gets tough, we must abstain from cheating, bribing, slacking, judging, or complaining. Instead, we must tackle our responsibilities with honesty, integrity, and diligence.

Our actions should always reflect the goodness of our Father. Remember that without God, all our labor is in vain (Psalms 127:1). May the Holy Spirit give us the courage to radiate the light of Jesus in and through everything we do!
