Silencing the Accuser

Job 22:27 NKJV

You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows.

Job, a wealthy, righteous, God-fearing man, was made to endure suffering permitted by God. Despite losing his family and property and experiencing personal suffering, Job remained loyal to God. His faithfulness to God acquitted him, thereby silencing the accuser.

Eliphaz, one of Job’s three friends, wrongly accused Job of being resentful against God and predicted that harm would follow him. It would have been wiser for Eliphaz to remain silent, as he did initially (Job 2:13 NKJV). Though Eliphaz might have sounded scripturally correct, yet he misjudged Job and God. Job refused his false accusations and did not curse God through his suffering. Eventually, God spoke to Job and silenced his friends.

Like Job’s friends, we also often wrongly presume that suffering is a result of sin and that a life with God is free of struggles. Jesus, our Savior, also endured innocent suffering and false accusations on earth, though He was God and blameless. However, in the end, He proved every one of His accusers wrong. The enemy was silenced and defeated.

Two key points from today’s devotion are:

1) During tough times, keep your faith in God. Believe that He will restore everything you’ve lost, be it time, relationships, wealth, etc.

2) Avoid inviting God’s wrath into your life by speaking against God’s will like Job’s friends. Instead, always ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance.

Remember, one day, everyone has to stand before God for judgment. Only He has the ultimate right to forgive or punish. Isaiah 33:22 NKJV – “For the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King; He will save us.”
