The latter days

Haggai 2:9 – “The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the LORD of hosts.”

The prophet Haggai had a lot to say to the Israelites who had been exiled. They had left the house of God in ruins, but started rebuilding their own homes. God reached out to the Israelites through Haggai and instructed them to start building God’s temple. The verse above is God’s promise regarding His temple – the house of God would be better than before, and peace would prevail in the land.

In the New Testament, we are considered the temple of the Holy Spirit. God dwells in our mortal bodies. When we read the verse again keeping ourselves in mind, it is a beautiful promise for our future. Your latter days shall be greater than the former. If you’ve lived a difficult life, the latter part of your life is going to be good. If you’re already living the good life, it’s only going to get better!

God’s glory dwells in us, and He will fill us with His peace. All we need to do is remember that we are the temple of God, and act like it. We need to be conscious of God’s presence in our lives, and strive to live in a manner worthy of His righteous name. Remember who holds your future – He will make it beautiful in His time for His glory.
