The Law of Love

Proverbs 29:18  Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.

We’ve often heard that the new covenant, established by the Lord Jesus during His time on Earth, offers abounding grace. Laws are no longer relevant in this present age!

But, is that true?

When asked by the Pharisees about the greatest commandment in the law, the Lord Jesus replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:37-40

Does that mean laws still exist?

Certainly! However, the scores of commandments that were given by God to Moses, have been reduced to just one law.

It is the Law of LOVE!

Happiness is a byproduct of love!

There’s a story of a man who told his friend that it takes a lot of money to buy happiness. To this, the friend said he can be happy with just Rs. 10.

“Challenge on!” said the man to his friend.

The friend took the 10 rupees and bought a bar of chocolate for a beggar on the street. When he returned the man asked him what he had done to make himself happy. The friend said, “I bought a bar of chocolate for a man without anything to eat. The joy on his face made me extremely happy!”

It is true that showing love to others is the surest way to happiness. That’s how we are wired by our creator because He is a God of immense love and we are made in His image!
