Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9
This is the promise that the Lord made to Joshua after forty years of wilderness wanderings was over, Moses had died, and the time had come for Israel to cross Jordan and take possession of their inheritance – the long-awaited Promise Land. Even though there were many battles to be fought, the Lord assures Joshua that every place the sole of his foot touches, “I have given to you, just as I promised Moses” (Joshua 1:3).
This promise that our Lord made to Joshua applies to us today because, in Christ, we have become God’s people (1 Peter 2:10). Life can be full of challenges, sorrows, and tough decisions. But even amidst hardship, the Lord counsels us to be strong and courageous. Victory is certain because the battle is already won.
Being strong and courageous more often is made up of small decisions we make every day that show our trust in God. As we prayerfully seek His direction, study His Word, and follow His example each day, we will have the courage to let go of fear and face our challenges with faith. As you turn to our Lord Jesus Christ in faith and follow His counsel to be strong and of good courage, you will feel the assurance that He is always with you.
Prayer: Loving Father, I praise You that You have shown Yourself faithful to Your people, throughout all generations. Help me be strong in You and rely on You in all the problems of life that I may face, knowing that You are with me, wherever I go. Thank You Father in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
