Acts 7:9-10 – “And the patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold him into Egypt; but God was with him and rescued him out of all his afflictions and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made him ruler over Egypt and over all his household.”
We all love stories where the lead character goes through various trials, but triumphs in the end. The life of Joseph in the Bible was no different. He was a favored son but ended up in a pit. He came out and landed a good position in Potiphar’s house, only to have his good name maligned and be thrown into prison. Eventually he did come out though, and had a prominent place in the Egyptian palace.
While we know how Joseph’s life story ended, he had no clue how it would go while he was living it. When he was in the pit, did he wonder if God had abandoned him? Did he blame God when he did what was right but still ended up in prison? From what we read in the Bible, Joseph still had his faith intact, even in the messy middle.
Do you find yourself in the messy middle too? You know God will ultimately work things out for you, but right now things aren’t looking so good. The waiting is hard. But it’s your waiting period that prepares you (your attitude, character and behavior) for what God has in store for you. Learn to trust God in the middle of your mess. He will deliver you and you will glorify Him in the end.
