Tune in to the Shepherd’s Voice

John 10:27

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

We often like to think we’re in control of our own lives. We feel as though we make every decision confidently. But in reality, our minds are scattered across a thousand different thoughts. We are trying to navigate a fog of digital alerts, social pressures, and that constant inner dialogue telling us we need to do more. We believe we’re following our own path, but spiritual life isn’t truly about finding our own way; it’s about choosing which voice we will listen to.

There’s something beautiful about how the Shepherd speaks. He doesn’t try to shout over the chaos or drown out the noise with loudness. Instead, He speaks with the calm authority of someone who really knows you. Hearing Him isn’t just about processing sound; it’s about that moment of recognition.

It’s a simple process: we hear, we realise we are known, and then we follow. Too often, we get it wrong. We try to follow the “rules” and check off a religious to-do list without ever taking the time to listen to God’s heart. But true faith isn’t about recruitment or performance; it’s about relationship. We don’t follow because we have to; we follow because we are known, completely and personally.

As we move through Lent, let’s intentionally silence the noise. Take time to ask yourself: Whose voice has been the loudest in your mind lately? Is it the inner critic, the demanding world, or the gentle call of the Shepherd? This Lenten season is a great time to realise that real security doesn’t come from being in control, but from staying close to the One who loves you.
