Proverbs 21:31 – “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.”
A battle horse is a powerful animal. It would have to be the best in its breed and trained from a very age for warfare. These horses would go through rigorous training, so they aren’t spooked easily in the heat of the battle. The riders too, would need to have specialized training so they are capable of riding these horses. Neither the horse, nor the rider, could ever enter a battlefield unprepared. But when they do have the right training and appropriate gear, they have better chances of victory against the enemy.
In life, we face daily battles, either of our own making or those brought on by the devil. If we are to be victorious, we need to prepare ourselves like the horse does. We ought to arm ourselves with the Word of God and prayer, so we are ready to take on the enemy. But just as a battle horse is useless without a rider, all our preparation would be in vain if we don’t trust God in the heat of the battle. No matter how ready we may be, it is only through Christ that we can be victorious. If you’re going through a war in your life, don’t give up. Hand over your reins to God and allow Him to lead you to victory.
Let us proclaim along with the Psalmist, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
