Finding Joy

Psalm 30:5 – “For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”

We have all been through trying times when only sorrow and pain abound. There doesn’t seem to be an end to all the suffering; no light to be seen at the end of the dark and dreary tunnel. We seem to have fallen out of favor with God and man. The hurt in our hearts only seems to solidify with each passing day. It’s easy to fall into a deep pit of bitterness and self-pity that we dig for ourselves, but we don’t have to!

The Psalmist reminds us that while God’s anger may last just a moment, His favor will last our entire lifetime. When we are conscious to live in close relationship with God, He will watch out for us. Yes, there may be days, weeks or months when the weeping doesn’t stop. But as long as we have Jesus in our lives, we have hope.

The dark clouds will pass away and we will see the light of God’s love shining on us. It’s not easy to choose joy in the midst of suffering. But when we make the effort, we will find pockets of peace in every painful situation. We will have the assurance that no matter how hopeless our situation is, in Christ we have hope. He will make a way out for us. Hold on, dear friend… Joy is just around the corner!
