Psalm 37:23
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and He delights in his way.
Psalm 37 was written by David as a song of wisdom to encourage God’s people not to become discouraged by the temporary success of the wicked. Instead, he repeatedly urges believers to trust the Lord, remain faithful, and patiently wait for His justice and timing. It is in this context that David declares today’s verse.
The word ‘steps’ speaks of much more than physical movement. It represents our daily decisions, conversations, relationships, priorities, opportunities, and even the seemingly ordinary moments that shape our lives. God rarely reveals the entire roadmap. More often, He faithfully directs the next step.
The phrase ‘ordered by the Lord’ doesn’t imply that life will always be free of hardship or uncertainty. Rather, it reminds us that when our hearts are surrendered to God, He lovingly guides our choices and redirects us when necessary. He uses every season, even unexpected detours, to accomplish His purpose in our lives.
Perhaps you’re facing a career decision, waiting for an answer, raising children, caring for aging parents, or simply trying to be faithful in everyday responsibilities. This verse assures us that none of these moments are insignificant to God. He delights in those who seek Him and walk with Him.
Instead of anxiously demanding the entire blueprint, trust God with today’s step. His direction often becomes clearer through obedience rather than certainty. As you continue walking with Him, you’ll discover that the One who orders your steps is also walking beside you.
