For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, for we
are also His offspring. – Acts 17:28
We are Gods offspring. A human baby lives in the amniotic fluid of the mother’s womb before birth.
The amniotic fluid keeps a steady temperature around the baby. Helps the baby’s lungs grow and
develop because the baby breathes in the fluid. Helps the baby’s digestive system develop because
the baby swallows the fluid. Helps the baby’s muscles and bones develop because the baby can
move around in the fluid. Amniotic fluid also contains essential nutrients, hormones and antibodies
(cells in the body that fight off infection).
All these developments take place because the baby is ‘in’ the amniotic fluid. What does it mean for
us as Gods children to be ‘in’ him? The answer is found in Acts 17:30 (MSG) version – but now He
commands all people everywhere to repent [that is, to change their old way of thinking, to regret
their past sins, and to seek God’s purpose for their lives]. A daily renewing of our minds with God’s
word is to ‘live in Him’, to consciously pursue right living is ‘being in Him’ and to cultivate a life of
prayer so we can know his plans for us is to ‘move in Him’. To be ‘in’ God is to abide in Him.
All of us reading today didn’t realize the importance of amniotic fluid while we were in it, but we all
are here because we lived in it and experienced its many benefits. Therefore seemingly ordinary
moments offered to Him become meaningful sometimes only when we look back. Just like the baby
living in the amniotic fluid God’s word assures us that our living in surrender to Him, abiding in Him,
is the best decision we can make every day.
John 15: 7-10
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for
you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit.
