Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding.”
The word ‘trust’ is defined as: the firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone. When you wholeheartedly trust someone, it means you completely believe in them. You know they’ll be there for you and you trust in their ability to care for you in any situation. This kind of unwavering trust does not change based on how you feel or what you’re facing that day. And that’s the kind of trust we should aim to have in our Lord Jesus Christ.
What does it mean to trust the Lord wholeheartedly? It could be recounting His promises to you when you’re feeling anxious about something that’s troubling you. It’s when you quiet your mind and rest in Him when you’re feeling stressed out with all your commitments. It’s knowing without any doubt that God is for you – He’s on your side even when no one else is.
When you truly believe that God sent His only beloved Son for you (John 3:16), it’s not a stretch to cast all your burdens on Him and trust that He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). When you trust in your own wisdom, strength, and skills, you will be disappointed. But when you trust in the Lord’s wisdom, grace and strength, it will never be in vain. Remember, those who trust in the Lord will never be put to shame (Romans 10:11).
