Why Should I Love God?

That you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. Deuteronomy 6:2

How much do we love God?

Do we love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength? Why did Jesus call this the greatest commandment?

When love abounds, it becomes easy to do things that please the other person. The principle holds good even in our relationship with God. It becomes easy to please God with our faith, even in the direst situations, when we truly love Him. Our background, friends, time of birth, movement of the stars, etc. don’t matter when He is on our side.

Jairus, a leader in the synagogue, approached Jesus with a desperate request. His daughter was terribly sick. In fact, she was on her deathbed.

This wasn’t particularly uncommon, as many people with chronic illnesses approached Jesus for healing. However, Jairus was a well-known religious leader. And we all know how the religious leaders despised Jesus.

Did Jairus care about his colleagues thoughts? No!

Did Jesus care about the environment in which Jairus spent most of his time – among the Pharisees and Sadducees? No!

All Jesus cared about was Jairus’ love for Him, which translated into faith!

While Jesus travelled to Jairus’ house, a servant approached them to deliver the terrible news that Jairus’ daughter had died.

But Jesus continued on His journey toward the house, where people were wailing for their loss. Jesus told them that the girl wasn’t dead, but asleep. Immediately, these people who were crying started laughing at Him.

But Jesus continued on His journey toward where the girl’s body was placed. And Jairus followed to witness a life-giving miracle!

The Lord Jesus will not stop what He started as long as you have the faith to believe in Him! Nothing else matters. The Pharisees in your life don’t matter. The people who are closest to you may be right outside the door where your miracle lies. Even their lack of faith doesn’t matter. Only your faith matters! And faith is a direct result of our love for God.

That’s why Jesus told us to love the Lord with everything that we have. It is simply because every good quality that activates miracles arises from this love!
