Wisdom and understanding

Proverbs 4:5-6:  Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.  Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

This is an instruction from Solomon, the wise king, to his children.  He was his father’s, king David’s, beloved child.  He never hesitated to pass on to his children what his father had taught him, though he was a very wise king himself.

We can have all the riches and wealth and honor in this world, but if we act foolishly by making poor choices and adopting a poor lifestyle, it is all in vain.  We should have wisdom in abundance and practice it in our everyday life.  Along with wisdom, we have to get understanding.  This is so that we know what we are doing and where we are getting into.  Make sensible choices.  Do not put your foot in all places, know how to behave in different situations.  Do what God feels is right for you, do what He puts in your heart.  Act wisely, take God’s help because He is the source of all wisdom and understanding.  If you do not understand anything or if you feel you need help, just ask God.  Do not forsake wisdom.  Solomon instructed his children to love wisdom so that it will be with them.  Love God so that He will instruct and guide you.

The scriptures teach us that if anybody lacks wisdom, he/she should ask God who gives it liberally.  God does not ration it out, instead He gives it abundantly.  Get wisdom, get understanding. Treasure these things because they come from God.
