James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Christian life is about cultivating a deeper trust in God every day, in times of trials, sunshine or decision-making; at all times.
To talk specifically about times of decision making, all of us would need wisdom and the skill of discernment to analyze, understand and make a right choice. When we just don’t know what to do or which way should we go, how do we decide? Those who truly trust God will ask Him for wisdom. Asking God for wisdom is the evidence that we trust Him.
James states that God gives wisdom generously. He does not hesitate in providing guidance to those who ask Him. In fact, God gives wisdom away without finding fault. In other words, He doesn’t consider our previous sinful acts and turns away His face thinking we are not worthy of receiving wisdom from Him. He is a good God.
We have opportunities to be wise or foolish every day. But it is up to us which way we want to choose. God’s understanding of every situation is efficient & limitless (Psalms 147:5). So, it is for our good that we should depend on our omniscient God to make choices in literally every situation.
Now how do we ask God for wisdom? Apart from asking faithfully, we should be a God-fearing people (Psalms 111:10). When we fear God, we will want to follow His teachings and obey His commandments. Thereby, we automatically avoid committing sins that displease Him.
Secondly & most importantly, we should be committed to reading the Word and learning from the Bible (2 Timothy 3:15). The Holy Bible contains literally everything that we need to know on how to conduct our lives on earth…instructions, warnings, guidance etc. When we include it in our everyday routine and meditate on it, the Word acts as the light to our path each day (Psalms 119:105).
