Matthew 5:4 NKJV “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”
As we read this verse, countless situations might surface in our minds. This is one of the beatitudes from the sermon on the mountain, but it’s vital to read the Scripture in its original context.
Before Jesus could deliver this message of comfort to the waiting crowd, the Author of Life faced His own moments of trials and temptations. Jesus being divinely led into the wilderness to be tempted by satan for 40 days had received His divine appointment of preaching the good news to the poor, needy, hurt, and broken. But before He could do any mighty acts, Jesus had to walk through trials and temptations in order to comfort us when we walk through it.
But, this message of comfort wasn’t intended for everybody! This was intended only for the people who had willingly come to Him in faith; it wasn’t true for the unbelievers. The comfort promised in the Scriptures was meant only for God’s children—a different kind of comfort that only they get to experience in their journeys of pain and suffering!
Beloved, if you’re walking through similar circumstances today and going through a season of mourning, just remember that your comfort is a promise from Heaven. As the Word of God says in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” He will never leave you nor forsake you. So be encouraged today that your help is on the way.
