01 Thank you, Sister Sheena, for leading us in this amazing time of worship. We're going to do the confessions loud and clear. I believe in the almighty God, our Father and Creator. I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God and my Savior. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He suffered, died, and rose again. He ascended into heaven. He shall soon come again. I believe in God the Holy Spirit who is worshipped and my guide. I believe in the holy fellowship, faithful giving, and service to God in this church. I believe the Holy Bible is a perfect word of God. I am what it says I am. I have what it says I have. And I can do what it says I can do. Today, as I learn the word of God here in my spiritual family, I am blessed, healed, and anointed for a holy and victorious living. I will never again be the same in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Please be seated in God's presence. Hallelujah.

07 Hope all of you have got this material. And if you haven't, our volunteers are here to help you out. And this is the first Bible study of this year. And this Bible study is about the doctrine of God. Are we all good to go? All right. So, let's look into the first page that talks about the doctrine of God. The doctrine of God is a central central pillar of all theology. The term doctrine originates from the Latin term doctorina, meaning teaching or instruction. Theology itself derives from the Latin word theologia, which combines the Greek words theo, God, and logia, study. All right, so the doctrine of God, in other words, means study of God. Amen. So, when we study on God, we understand His nature. We understand His character. We understand His ways. And

12 once we understand His character, His nature, His ways, that begins to reflect in our belief system. It begin to reflect in the way we look at our lives. Our lives become purposeful. Our lives become meaningful. And our lives will be aligned to what God has planned us to be. That is what the doctrine of God does. But unfortunately, today, when we look around the world, the world has misinterpreted the concept of God into many things. There is a lot of misinterpretation, misconception about God. Some people treat God as a police officer who is angry, who is irritated, who is just waiting to catch you, fine you. So, that faith is more or less like fear-driven faith. All right? And sometimes people can take it to another extreme where they look at God as a a grandfather figure where a grandfather obliges for everything. You know, those were grandfathers here, you

15 know what I'm trying to say. So, um who obliges for sin and happiness above holiness. So, these are two extremes that people, you know, sometimes find difficult to understand God on. So, these distorted images, it has to be replaced with biblically grounded understanding of God's nature. So, doctrines can be defined as an organized study of foundational truth on which faith system can be built on. So, while we understand the doctrines of God, it is also very important how we look at the doctrines of God, because even the doctrines of God can, you know, take us to the extreme where we bring down God into an idea rather than believing Him as a personal God, as a living God. So, we must be careful on that. Go to the next page. So, here also it goes on to say, the study of God's nature should serve a clearer, truer knowledge of Him, leading

20 Him into a deeper and more personal relationship. In other words, the study of God's word, it is to bring us closer to God. It is to draw us closer to God. Amen. Go to the next page, page number two, that talks about can we really know God? The Bible does not waste time in arguing this question. But then the Bible directly shows us what God does. Amen. Genesis chapter 1, verse 1. It goes on to say, "In the beginning, God created heavens and the earth." And in that, everything is there. The question of whether God exists or not is answered in that verse. Hallelujah. Our God is way bigger than, you know, the fancy debates that we hear, maybe the fancy books and philosophies that comes out. Our God is way bigger than the fancy podcast that we hear. He's way beyond all that. Hallelujah. There are philosophical proofs that can,

23 you know, help us to understand God. It goes on to say here, philosophical proofs like ontological argument, teleological argument, cosmological argument. You know, all this sophisticated words. So, this these arguments, they can point us towards God. But as I told you, if you don't um if if you don't balance it, what happens? It can take it take us to the extreme where we believe that God is distant, God is complicated. So, that is why God looks forward to connect with us through His word. Amen. God always forward to connect with us in personal ways. So, here it goes on to three simple foundational truths about God. Number one, God is real. Come on, let's say it together. God is real. He is a God who exists. Hallelujah. He is not an idea. He is not a force, but He is active in our lives

29 as well as in this world. Hallelujah. Amen. So, if we can be confident about our existence, we should be more confident God's existence because our existence depends on God. Hallelujah. Our is real. Nothing changes that. Number two, our is revealed. He is a God who speaks to us. He doesn't hide Himself. He is not some distant, unapproachable, detached, you know, person. He is someone who reveals Himself. And He reveals Himself to us through His word as well as through Lord Jesus. Amen. Number three, our God is relational. And I I think this is the most fun part of our God. He's a relational God. Amen. He invites us to know about He invites us to know Him, not knowing about Him. Let me just you know, clarify this. There is a

33 difference between knowing about God. We can know about God maybe through families, maybe through friends or colleagues, uh maybe through church. We can know about God. That will remain as an information That will remain as a knowledge. But knowing God is something that transforms us. That changes us from inside to the out. Hallelujah. Go to page number three. It goes on to talk about God is real. God is not a character in a fairy tale. He is as real as we are. Amen. And as I told you, the the creation declares His glory. Psalm 19:1-2 talks about it. The heavens declare the glory of God. The The skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech. Night after night, they display knowledge. In other words, this beautiful you nature that we see, the universe, the solar system, the countless stars

38 that is yet being counted, all of it it points to a master designer. Hallelujah. And it is impossible to say that there is no God. Or it is unreasonable to say there is no God. Amen. Number two, we see that God's fingerprint on human history. God sovereignly orchestrates the rise and the fall people nations. You know, we see God's hand throughout in the history. Our God is someone who knows the past, the present, the future. God knows everything. But God doesn't, you know, handle everything. God is not responsible everything. Even though He knows what is happening, there are some things that He controls, but there are some things He don't. All right, so we see God's fingerprint on human history. Go to page number three. We see God's action in our lives. So, God's moral character is something

42 that is written in every human heart. Our innate sense, or our inborn sense, the natural sense to know what is right, what is wrong, what is lawful, it is there in our In fact, our moral conscience, you know, directs us to the moral giver. Romans chapter 2 verse 14 to 15, can we read that together? Even Gentiles who do not have God's written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God's law is written in their hearts for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. Here Apostle Paul, he's saying that in every human heart, there is an awareness, there is a moral awareness whether this person read Bible or not, whether this person know God or not, you know, that moral conscience is there in

44 every human heart. For example, a person who don't know God, who has never read Bible, but that person believes that stealing is wrong, bribing is wrong, maybe adultery is wrong. You know, they somehow believe that straight living is the right living. So that is because they that their conscience, it is attached to God's law. And it's vice versa, when we do wrong, when we, you know, violate certain laws or whatever, you know, we have this conscience within our heart. But that does not mean that it can be replaced with our salvation. Right? Just because we are doing things right, that cannot replace our salvation. Salvation can only come through Lord Jesus by accepting him as our personal God and savior. Hallelujah. Our good works cannot replace salvation. Go to page number five, God is revealed. So when we want to understand God, we don't approach God like how scientists

47 go in a lab and you know, do the testing or studying. We don't approach God that way. God is not discovered by us, but he chose to reveal himself to us. There is this beautiful story, a true story that happened in the late 1800s. There was this young man who named Sadhu Sundar Singh and he was born in a very religious devout home, a Sikh family. So, you know, he had seen his family involved in all religious activities and everything and somehow from the young age, he had this desire to know the true God. And in the story goes on to say that he used to do all kinds of religious performance and activities just to know this real God. But he also had some inner challenges and struggles that he was battling with for a long time. So that story goes on to say that uh probably in his early teenage, he also developed some sort of hatred towards Christianity and he would burn Bibles publicly. So in that season of his life,

52 what happened his mother became sick and she passed away. So his mother was more or less like a moral support, a strength for him, a pillar of strength for him. So when his mother passed away, uh it he couldn't take it anymore. So the inner struggle that he was struggling and the loss of his mom, everything put together, he realized that, you know, it was going way beyond his control. And it goes on to say that he decided to give up on his life. He decided to end his life. All right? So he made all the preparation and arrangement on how he wanted to do and that previous day, he just had this desperate desire in his heart which went on to say that whoever is there as a living God, you just reveal yourself to me. And that night, you know, Lord it goes on to say that Lord Jesus appeared in his room. And there was this beautiful radiant light and he saw Lord Jesus in the midst of the light and he saw his nail pierced hands and Lord Jesus spoke to him by saying, I am the way, follow me. And

56 then the later on he went on to say that I did not, you know, go behind Christ by searching him, but Christ found me and he revealed himself to me. Hallelujah. So God is not discovered by us. He chose to reveal himself to us. So two important way that he reveals himself to us, number one, God reveals himself to us through his word. You know, we learn that nature declares God's glory, but that's all nature can do. Nature cannot introduce us to God. Nature cannot give us purpose. Suns and stars cannot predict our future. Only God can predict. Only God can define our future. Amen. So that is exactly why God chose to speak to us directly and he speaks to us directly through his word. This whole word, this whole Bible, it is God's message for us. Hallelujah. Second

59 Timothy chapter 3 verse 16, it goes on to say God's word reveals his heart, his character, his amazing plans to rescue humanity. You know, when we look at our own lives, when we look at the humanity, all of us, we were looking forward to earn acceptance. All of us were looking forward to find meaning and purpose in life. And that is when God sent, you know, different peoples during the generations like prophets and teachers and kings, but at last he sent his perfect gift to the humanity by sending his own son, Lord Jesus to us. Hallelujah. Go to the next page, page number six. So from giving and general announcement, God moved it into a personal invitation by giving his own son to us and his word for each one of us. Amen. John 3:16, the Bible so beautifully says that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son so that whosoever should not

02 perish, whosoever believes in him should not perish, but they will have everlasting life. Number two, God reveals himself to us through his son. So throughout the history, we see humanity was longing to find purpose and ancient civilizations, they began to make countless gods and goddesses. There were a lot of theories that came up, but in all this, we see that God had sent Lord Jesus Christ and through him the full and the final revelation came. Go to the next page, page number seven. So here we see the Bible represents Jesus not as a religious leader or a religious teacher or a prophet pointing us towards God. Jesus is the complete and the final revelation of God. Hallelujah. And that is a cornerstone of our faith. Amen. Jesus was not just carrying God's

05 God's message. He is the message. Amen. There is no other name on heaven or on earth or beneath the earth that is greater than the name of Lord Jesus. Hallelujah. The Bible goes on to say at the name of Lord Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess that he is the living God. He is the message to the lost world. Hallelujah. So John chapter 17 verse 3, Jesus himself explained that eternal life means personally knowing God. Go to the next page, page number eight. Here it goes on to say God is relational. So we live in a world where, you know, people believe that God is some distant person, he's a detached person. So people try to do a lot of religious performance activities just to please this divine. But we see here God is deeply relational inviting us into a close and meaningful connection.

09 Number one, Jesus taught us to see God as our father. Wow, that's so beautiful. Amen. So we don't have to look at God as an angry police officer, we don't have to look at him like that, you know, that grandfather, but we can look at him as our heavenly father. Romans 8:15, I think the Bible goes on to say that God has not given us a spirit of fear again, but he has given us a spirit of sonship where we can go to him anytime and we can call him above father. Hallelujah. Matthew chapter 6 verse 9, it so beautifully talks about a relationship of a loving parent and his love for us. Number two, we see that stories Jesus spoke reveals the heart of God and the nature of God as relational. Lord Jesus spoke from stories. Last year, we studied on the parables of Lord Jesus, right? So stories was a beautiful way that Lord Jesus would connect with people and he made those stories so relevant and he spoke from the real

12 lives so that people could understand what he was trying to say. Nothing went above the head of people, it just went straight into the hearts of people. The the the stories like the story of the prodigal son, the the banquet, all of it, it points out that our God is not judgmental, but on the other hand, we cannot take God as casual. He is a God of warmth and he is a loving God. You know, the message of Lord Jesus is never complicated. The message of Lord Jesus is so simple, but on the other hand, it is direct, it is powerful. Many times people can make it complicated. Maybe traditions can make it complicated. Maybe religion can make it complicated, but the message of Lord Jesus remain as simple, direct. You know, it is just like this. You come to God just the way you are and he will begin to transform your life. Hallelujah. You know, someone so beautifully said, "We do not move towards God because we were perfect. We do We move towards God

18 because he moved towards us." Hallelujah. So, our God is a relational God. Go to page number nine. Point number three, it goes on to say, "Trinity reveals the relational nature of God." So, the the doctrine of Trinity reveals a profound and beautiful truth. Relationship is not just something God does. It is who God is. So, God is one and he exists as three persons, Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. So, they are distinct in person, but they are equal in nature, sharing the same divine essence. All right? So, this means relationship is eternal. You know, when we have Christ in us, our relationship with become with him become an eternal relationship. You know, God did not become relational after creating humanity. Before creation was, there was already perfect love, communication, and joy

22 within Godhead himself. So, that is exactly the way God expects each one of us to be. You know, God wants us to have that relationship with him first and through that relationship peace begin to flow in our lives, purpose begin to flow in our lives, and that will begin to bless the lives of people around us. We are made for community. Go to the next page. We are also invited in. The God who exists as a perfect community of love extends that love outward. Through Jesus, we are welcomed into divine circle of fellowship, forgiveness, and life. All right? So, now let's look into the key qualities of God. So, to understand God and his different qualities of his character, you know, it is so important. But, on one hand, we see that God's some of his moral qualities and his character, they are so magnificent and it just belongs to God

26 alone. But, there are some qualities God do share with us so that we can reflect God in our personal lives. Let's look at the qualities only God has. It goes on to say that he is utterly unique and beyond us like being completely independent, outside of time, and never changing. We can't be this, right? Only God can. So, the qualities we can share with God, let's look at that. These are the aspects of his character we are called to reflect in our own lives, that is love, justice, and mercy. So, to make it the whole entire thing simpler, we see two beautiful pairs of truth. It goes on to say that transcendence of God and the nearness of God and the greatness of God and the goodness of God. So, let's look at what is this God's transcendence means. So, God is fundamentally separate and greater than everything. He's greater than his creation. He's not the highest creation. All right? He exists outside

30 of it. He is a category of his own. God is not a force. He's not a superman or a superhero. His very being, his purity, his knowledge, his power, they are infinite and they are beyond our human understanding. Go to page number 12. So, to make it much more simpler, it's like this. God is not like us. He is holy another being. He is the creator and we are the creation. All right? So, when we understand this truth, it helps us to come to God with absolute sovereign and all. So, God's nearness means God is not distant or a detached energy force. So, this God who is beyond our understanding, this God who is unchanging, this God who is infinite, he's he's not a distant God. He's not a detached God. He is someone who is close to us. Hallelujah. So, he is actively present in our personal lives, not only in our lives,

34 even in our in even in the human history, we see even today, and you know, around us, we see that God is actively involved. So, this means that God can you know, this means that we can recognize God's hand not only in miracles, but we see God's hand in the rhythm of nature. We see God's hand in our daily lives. We see God's hand in human skills and creativity. Even the people do not acknowledge him, we see God's hand through them. I'll give an example. Just imagine if uh you know, when a doctor, when he tries or when she tries to do the very best to see the patients being well and healed, and you know, as they desire for the wellness of the patient, we see God's hand through them. When a judge, when he or she when they stand up for justice and when they speak for justice, we see God's hand through them. All right? So, we're going to look at a beautiful balance of transcendence

37 of God. A beautiful balance of God's transcendence and God's nearness is important. It's paramount to have an overall view of God. God is close enough to understand our struggles. Amen? And great enough to handle them. When we look at our lives, we may have a lot of struggles, you know, the struggles of finances or maybe job losses or maybe finding purpose in our lives. That That can be all kinds of challenge that we go through, but keep this in our mind that he is someone who understands our struggle. And on the other hand, he is great enough to handle them. Go to the next page, page number 16. If we lean too far into God's nearness, we may mistake his presence for approval of our sins. All right? So, the meaning is this. God's nearness and God's closeness towards us does not give us approval to do what we want. God's nearness and his approval, it gives us the power to

41 redeem ourselves, to change, to transform. That is what God's nearness do for us. But, if we overemphasize transcendence, we might look forward for miracles and miss how God work through our daily obedience and effort. All right? So, when we look at God's transcendence, we shouldn't be looking at what he can do for us. Or when we come to God, what he can do for me. That shouldn't be our intention. The balance should be like this, you know, God's nearness is not the approval to do what we want, and God's transcendence does not mean that we can chase after his miracles. So, this balance helps us to approach God with intimacy and reverence. Hallelujah. So, now let's look at the greatness and the goodness of God. The greatness of God answers the question, "What is God?" All right? So, of course, we learned that few pages back, the unique qualities which God has

44 for himself. So, studying the greatness of God reveals his fundamental nature. Number two, the goodness of God. It answers the question, "What is God like?" Where the perfect and the moral relationship qualities like love, holiness, and faithfulness, which is shared with us. All right? So, studying the goodness of God reveals his character. Go to the next page, page number 14. It talks about the attributes of the greatness of God. So, these qualities are the qualities which God has for himself, which belongs to him alone. Let's look at it. Number one is self-existence. In other words, aseity. God has life in himself. He does not need anything to survive like we do. You know, we need food, water, money, all those things to survive, but God doesn't need all of it. God is a source of these things. Hallelujah. Number two

48 is omnipotence. He is all powerful. God possess all power. Amen? There is nothing too hard for him. Next is omniscience. He is an all-knowing God. God's knowledge is infinite and it is perfect, and he knows all things. He knows the past, the present, the future, and that is why it is so important for each one of us to commit our lives to God because God knows it all. Next is God is omnipresence. God is everywhere. We can hide from people. We can go wherever we want and we can camouflage. We can do whatever, but we cannot hide ourselves from God. Amen? Next is eternity. God exists outside and beyond time, and he has no beginning and end. Next is sovereignty. God is the supreme ruler of all creation, and he directs all things according to his perfect will and purpose. Next is

51 incomprehensibility. You know, even though, you know, some part of God he has revealed to us, we cannot understand God completely. He is way beyond that. He is infinite. He is beyond comprehension. Next is constancy. God is described as unchanging, but that does not mean that God is static or God is immovable. That That talks about his dependability. That is the way he is. You know, today we live in a world where everything changes. Promises can change. People can change. Situations can change, but God doesn't change. Hallelujah. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hallelujah. Nothing changes him. Next is majesty or glory. God's splendor, greatness, beauty are supreme. And all created glory, power, honor are but a dim of reflection of his own. You know, on the side of it, we see God's

55 response to evil. Probably, you can go home and read that. So, now let's look at the attributes of the goodness of God. Okay, so these are the attributes which God shares with us, and these are the attributes or the character qualities God expects us to have in our personal lives. Number one is moral purity. God is completely separate from anything evil or corrupt. So, purity has three parts here. That is holiness, righteousness, and justice. When you look at the concept of holiness, we see that our God is a holy God. Hallelujah. Amen. And he invites us to reflect that holiness, that nature in us. Even though we cannot attain that perfect holiness of God in our lives, because we are human. We are imperfect. You know, we need to desire. We need to have that striving towards a pure life, a holy life. The Bible says that even a righteous may fall many times, but God

59 will raise him up. So, have that desire to live a pure life, a holy life, and God will bless us. God will strengthen us in that. Number two is righteousness. This is God's holiness in how he treat others. So, he invites us into a life of integrity in the way we treat one another. Next is justice. Our God is a perfect judge. Amen. So, in that similar way, we are called to maintain justice. We are called to hate evil, love good, and maintain justice in our personal lives. Let's Let's look at the concept of integrity. He is the final source of all truth. He is genuine, always truthful and faithful to his promises. So, integrity can be understood in three complementary angles. Number one, go to the next page, page number 17. It talks about genuineness, veracity, and faithfulness. You know, as a person, as

03 a child of God, God has called us to live and lead a life with integrity. You know, including all these things in that. Genuineness, veracity, and faithfulness. Living as the same person in public and in private. Amen. Never live a double life. Be who you are wherever you are. Whether people are watching you or not. You know, there's a beautiful saying that goes on to say, "Who you really are is when nobody's watching you." So, God looks forward for us to live as the same person. All right? God look forward for us to have genuineness. Next is veracity. Speaking truthfully, thoughtfully, and aligning your words with God's truth. And next is faithfulness. Keeping commitments over time, demonstrating consistency, loyalty, and reliability. Next, look at the concept of love. We say that God is love. The core message of the gospel is love. God is love. And we are called to exercise We are called

08 to reflect his love in the midst of our people, in the midst of this world. All right? So, go to the next page. So, this love itself is categorized into three again. Grace, mercy, and persistence. Okay, so these are all the qualities of Christ Jesus our Lord, where we can adapt, where we can reflect him in our personal lives. So, we may have questions like, you know, "How can I exercise righteousness? How can I stand up for integrity? How can I be an honest person when the entire system around me is corrupt? When the system around me is not for it, how can I be truthful? Maybe in my surroundings, maybe in my workplace." We may have questions, and the answer is this. Be like Joseph. Be like Daniel. Be bold and stand firm for what we believe is right. No matter what the cost is. Be You know, be bold. Stand firm for righteousness. Tran- Stand for justice.

12 Stand for truthfulness. Galatians chapter 6 verse 9. The Bible goes on to say that let's not become weary by doing good, because in the due time God will lift you up. And then it goes on to say, "If you do not lose your heart." Sometimes it is difficult to hold on, but if we do not lose our heart, God will lift us up. God will honor us. Hallelujah. So, as God's children, we are called to reflect his greatness, his character in our homes, in our surroundings, in our neighborhood, in our schools, in our colleges. You know, God has called us to reflect his character, so that his light may shine, you know, much brighter through us. Go to the next page, page number 19. Here we see a beautiful balance of the greatness and goodness of God. So, God is both overwhelmingly great and perfectly good. And many people struggle to balance these truth. But when we hold

17 them together, they transform the way how we live. He is great enough to handle anything that we face. There is nothing too big for him. He is good enough to care deeply about what you face. Nothing is too small for him. So, this is the balance. Romans chapter 8 verse 28. It goes on to talk about his sovereign power, greatness, works all things for our good and goodness. Amen. Let's look at the conclusion. So, the ultimate purpose of studying the doctrine of God, it is not to just attain some knowledge. It is not, but it is to reflect these things in our lives, so that we can live and we can have a better Christian life. So, true knowledge of God naturally lead us into a life of worship. Can we read Romans chapter 12 verse 1? Can we read it together? Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view

19 of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship. Hallelujah. Everything that we need to live to lead our lives is there in this verse. Amen. May the Lord give May the Lord give us the divine grace and the strength to live a life that is with devotion, with to live a life with where we value relationship, to live our life in God's character, and that is the most reasonable worship. Hallelujah. Amen. Let's look to God in prayer. Heavenly Father, we just want to say thank you for the study of your word. We thank you so much, oh Lord, that you are a God who understands us. You are At On the other hand, we thank you, Father, that you are a God who cares for us. Thank you so much for the truth of your divine word that remains as unchanging. And we pray, oh God, that the study of your word will bring

22 purpose and meaning into each one of our lives. Father, we thank you and we praise you. May the balance of the service may it be blessed by you. In Jesus' most holy name we pray. Amen. Amen. Can we put our hands together? Give a warm welcome to our dear pastor. Thank you, Pastor Cynthia, for that beautiful Bible study on the doctrine of God. When I was looking at the title, I said to myself, "What a What a difficult topic." But it came out so beautifully. Thank you very much. You know, when we started this Bible study many years ago, once a month, we started that we'll have Bible study, and uh primary purpose of Bible study is very simple. So, that people will know the Bible. Because many people

26 uh enjoy the anointing, they enjoy the presence of God, they enjoy motivation, they enjoy inspiration, but they don't know the Bible.
