Psalm 103:13 – “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”
It was the last day of his summer holidays and little Suresh had spent the entire day out with with his parents. They had shopped for clothes, stationery, and even a new toy. Suresh had wanted a burger and fries for lunch and his parents did not object. They reached home just in time for bed but Suresh wanted to stay up late to watch a movie. This time however, his parents denied his request and forced him to go to bed.
To Suresh, this was a huge injustice. He fumed about how unfair it was that he couldn’t stay up late on the last day of his holidays. But his parents knew better. They knew he needed a good night’s sleep if he was to be ready for school early the next morning. What Suresh called unfair was truly an act of compassion by his parents. They knew how tired he would be if they had allowed him to stay up past his bedtime. They loved him too much to grant him that simple request.
Often, we too want to scream at how unfair God is because He has not answered our prayers. Or perhaps you’re upset because He allowed you to go through a difficult situation. The truth is that God loves you and cares deeply about you. It is out of His compassion for you that He has allowed you to go through such an experience. We may never understand why it had to happen, but our wise Father has a purpose for it. Our compassionate God will not allow anything to happen to you unless it is for your own good. Trust in Him!
