1 Chronicles 29:28 – “And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.”
This verse speaks of the death of King David, but it doesn’t seem to be a sad obituary. Instead, we see that David had lived a good long life that was filled with riches and honor. We know that David hadn’t lived a meaningless, worldly life because he was a man after God’s own heart. Is it possible then, that the secret to a good life is a close relationship with God?
Many people reject the Christian lifestyle because they feel it restricts them from enjoying life to the full. But Paul tells us something different in 1 Timothy 6:17 – As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”
God does want to bless us with riches and honor for us to enjoy. But unless we have an intimate, consistent relationship with Him, we will not have the wisdom or character to enjoy it well. If you want to live a full life, turn to Jesus. As He said in John 10:10, Jesus came that we may have abundant life. While our lives may include a certain degree of sorrow and pain, it will be wiped out by the amount of joy and peace that we find in Jesus alone. Trust Jesus with your life today, and live it to the full!
