Psalm 119:81
My soul faints for Your salvation, but I hope in Your word.
How do we respond when we have been waiting on the Lord for something that seems to be delayed? Perhaps you have prayed for God to fulfill a desire He placed in your heart, yet nothing appears to be happening. Things seem unchanged, doors remain closed, and the waiting feels long and exhausting.
Abraham is known as the father of faith. God promised him a son when he was about seventy-five years old, yet Isaac was born only twenty-five years later (Genesis 12:1-4; 21:1-5). Imagine waiting twenty-five years for God to fulfill a promise. Each passing year, Abraham could have wondered if this would finally be the year. Yet he continued to trust the One who had made the promise.
God does not always answer our prayers according to our timeline. Sometimes He answers quickly, and at other times, He asks us to wait. But God is sovereign, and His timing is always perfect. While we wait, He prepares our hearts so that we are ready to receive His blessings in the right way.
The psalmist honestly says that his soul is fainting while waiting for God’s salvation, yet he chooses to keep hoping in God’s Word. That is the posture we are called to have. When the waiting becomes difficult, let us remember Abraham and the faithfulness of God.
The Lord hears every prayer and will bring deliverance in His perfect time. Therefore, let us not grow weary, but continue to hope in His Word, trusting that He who is faithful will surely fulfill His promises.
