Romans 8:18 - “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
All of us want to have a good future. We want to move onward and upward in life; we seek to accomplish something worthwhile and leave behind a good legacy. But how many of us are really moving towards the future we envision? Too often our lives are filled with mundane activities and a busy schedule that stomps out any hopes we may have of a bright future.
If anybody looked forward to a better future, it must have been Paul. He was beaten, imprisoned and persecuted more than we can ever imagine. And yet, his hope and passion for Christ were not diminished. In today’s verse, Paul tells the Romans that his sufferings are nothing compared to the glory God will eventually reveal to us. In the midst of his pain and intense struggles, Paul was able to look beyond to the glorious future that God had planned for him.
Paul had the assurance that he was accomplishing God’s divine purpose in his life, and God would reward him for it without doubt. May we too look beyond our temporary sufferings, seek to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives and acknowledge the way God is molding us daily to be more like Him. When we walk with God, we are constantly moving towards the glorious future He has planned for us. To God be all the glory!
