Ephesians 5:1-2 – “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Children are great imitators. They can replicate the exact tone, attitude and words that their parents use with them. Too often, kids also pick up negative traits from their environment, just because they see someone else doing it. Parents are cautious to be good examples to their kids, because they might grow up to be just like them.
We have a Heavenly Father who is the perfect example for us. In today’s scripture passage, Paul reminds us to imitate God, like little children imitate their parents. Jesus came as a human and exemplified true love and compassion. On our own, we may fail to replicate Christ’s love to those around us. But the Holy Spirit equips us and teaches us, as long as we allow Him.
Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me just as I am, and for teaching me how I can be a good reflection of who You are. Teach me to love as You do, that others may see You through me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
