Luke 5:31: I came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
Jesus came not for the righteous but for sinners. He came to the world to destroy sin and give us salvation. There were many self-righteous, religious people who lived during the time of Jesus who thought that Jesus should not mix with sinners. Jesus replied to them that He did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
Every person born on the face of the earth is a sinner by birth. Unless we accept Jesus in our personal life and decide to live for Him, we cannot be freed from sin. We may not have committed grave sins like adultery or murder, but even small, every day sins like lying or not being good to each other or hatred or being angry or jealous with people around us are some things that do not please God. People such as this are the ones who need Jesus more than anything. In fact, Jesus loves everyone but not sin in them. He loves sinners but not their sins. This is an open invitation to accept His unconditional love and forgiveness that He gives to all.
Nobody will ever love a sinner like Jesus does. Sometimes even close friends or family have difficulty accepting a wicked person in their circle. Even though the world forsakes us, Jesus will stick closer than a brother. He is a true friend waiting to accept us just as we are so that we will be saved from the wrath of God’s judgment.
