1 John 2:17 – “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
We are an instant-powered generation. We have instant coffee, instant food mixes, instant photographs, instant loan sanctions, and some companies even promise instant results. The plethora of websites and smartphone apps at our fingertips allow us to shop, pay bills, complete errands and even get help for household repairs right away. We’re used to getting what we want, exactly when we want it.
We live in a world that tells us to focus on things we can have right away. But the Bible tells us to focus on the things that matter for eternity. This world is temporary and our desires for material possessions will soon fade away. If we spend all our lives trying to achieve fortune and fame, we miss out on the riches that God has in store for us in eternity.
We must remember that as children of God, we have another life waiting for us. When we renew our minds and live Spirit-filled lives, we prepare our souls for eternity. Let’s spend our time here on earth building our character, and growing in the likeness of Jesus Christ.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21
