Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:6 KJV
As Christians we are constantly reminded about the importance of word. Words are more like spiritual forces, producing after their nature/kind. Words have the power of life and death, as we can speak blessings or curses with words.
Therefore words matter, they have the ability to shift our directions and impact our stories. As Colossians 4:6 talks about Grace and seasoned salt, what do these words really mean? Grace being one of the greatest attributes of Jesus, seasoned salt is a reference from Matthew 5:13. (“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people)
Thus, Colossians 4:6 is a scripture that urges the children of God to speak graciously (pleasant and winsome)at all times, seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that we may never be at loss]and to know how we must answer anyone [who puts a question to us]. In today’s world where communication is easier than ever, why is it that nobody can communicate effectively? In this context, life can be very challenging, so where could we go? Well, the best place we could go is to God’s word.
This way, we can unearth the supernatural powers that can be unleashed by learning to speak what God wants us to speak(purpose of speech). In this manner children of God discover that by changing their words, they can change their lives. May we be ever blessed!
