Psalm 59:16 – “I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.”
Have you heard of the saying, “A good offense is the best defense?” It’s something we see all around us in the cut-throat world we live in today. People think the only way to get ahead in life is to pull everyone else down. In such an era, the Word of God tells us to do something countercultural. We are to repay good for evil, pray for our enemies and bless those who curse us.
Today’s verse is part of the psalm that David wrote when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him. If anybody deserved to be on the offense, it was David. And yet, he did not take matters into his own hands. Although David had opportunities to take Saul’s life, he didn’t. He let the Lord deal with the injustice he was facing and trusted God to settle things in his favor.
We too can trust the Lord to be our defense and refuge in the day of trouble. God is on your side. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Even if it looks like the people against you are winning, it won’t be that way for long. Trust in the Lord and you too will be singing of God’s power and deliverance, His goodness and mercy in your life.
