Psalm 36:5 – “Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.”
We see limits all around us – either imposed by others or self-prescribed. Some limits we push, like staying up way too late, but others we follow. (The speed limit on a highway might be 80kmph but we limit our vehicles to 60kmph considering the traffic and the safety of our co-passengers.) While limits are mostly for our good, sometimes we tend to put limits on how we interact with God as well.
We might have a million anxious thoughts running through our minds, but the ones that turn into prayer requests are barely two or three. We readily pray for a headache to leave but struggle to pray with the same faith for a chronic illness. We’re so overwhelmed with everything on our to-do lists that we forget to ask God for wisdom, grace, and strength to face the day.
When we realize that we serve a limitless God, we’ll be in wonder at just how much He’s capable of. Nobody has been able to number the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. His mercies are new every morning, and they never run out. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Perhaps you’re crestfallen because you messed up yesterday. Take heart. The Lord’s mercies for you are new today. Come to Him with a repentant heart. Confess your sins and receive His forgiveness. Seek His grace to help you thrive today. When you seek the Lord Jesus Christ, His limitless mercy and faithfulness will keep you in the center of His will, and you will get to experience the abundant life He has promised.
