Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves Him who is begotten of Him. 1 John 5:1
God loves His children and sent His only begotten Son to save us. The apostle John focuses on loving one another, but love or how we treat others does not earn us salvation. Jesus told Nicodemus, “unless one is born-again, he cannot see the Kingdom of heaven”. This verse emphasises Jesus’ instructions. To be born-again means to be born of God. To be born of God, one must believe that Jesus is their saviour. Not just any saviour or messiah, but their personal redeemer. When we believe in the name of Jesus, we become a part of His family.
Being part of God’s family means loving God and other children of God. Jesus’ second greatest commandment was, “Love your neighbour as you love yourself”. It means to love without limits: limitations of economic status, denomination or only those who are good to you. Jesus said, “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
As you meditate on today’s verse and allow yourself to feel the love of your saviour, let it flow out to your neighbours. Let your love for one another display the love of Your Heavenly Father.
