Psalm 20:5
We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.
Psalm 20:5, written by David, expresses congregational prayers as he prepares for battle. David is confident that victory would be only in the name of God. To rephrase it better, David and his army would act through the word of God. It indicates David’s dependence on God. Victory is not for personal gain but for honoring God and His glory.
The point we need to focus on here is that as David prepares for the battle, he offers prayers to the Lord for victory, and so does the assembly. They also pray for King David’s success and protection.
David assures them that the Lord will answer their prayers and grant him victory over the enemy. He is firm in faith that the enemy will fall and that victory belongs to him.
What do we learn from King David’s expression of faith towards God while going to the battle?
He is confident that the Lord will answer his prayers, and they will emerge victorious.
When our actions are to honor God instead of personal ambitions and desires, we will let God handle our tribulations without fail. In trouble, we need to have faith in God but not in the external aspects.
In our lives, we fight multiple battles for which we need to put on the whole armor of God. Let us take the sword of the Holy Spirit, submit our prayers to the Lord, and we will be victorious in everything we do (Ephesians 6:10-18).
