You are chosen to reflect Him

Colossians 3:12-13 (NKJV) Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another.

The verse reminds us of our identity as God’s chosen people. This identity is the foundation for how we live and interact with others. When we understand and embrace our status as children of God, we are empowered to reflect His love and character.

Paul instructs us to “clothe” ourselves with specific virtues, implying that these qualities should be as evident and essential as the clothes we wear daily. These include:

  • Compassion: Showing heartfelt concern and empathy for others’ needs and sufferings.
  • Kindness: Acting with goodness and generosity toward others, even when it is undeserved.
  • Humility: Valuing others above ourselves and recognizing our need for God’s grace.
  • Gentleness: Responding with softness and self-control, even in challenging situations.
  • Patience: Bearing with others and enduring difficulties without complaint or irritation.
  • Bearing with and Forgiving each other: Relationships can be challenging, and we will inevitably encounter conflicts and grievances. The Word encourages us to bear with each other, understanding that everyone has flaws and weaknesses. Forgiveness is crucial, and we are called to forgive others just as the Lord has forgiven us. This means letting go of bitterness and extending grace, reflecting God’s mercy and love.
