“Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.”
Can you think of a time when you felt jealous about people who did wrong, wicked things? It is not difficult to see injustice towards the needy, the poor, the weak, the unprivileged, and the helpless. But we should not feel envious of people who do wrong in order to be successful and achieve prosperity. Neither should we be anxious, angry, or worried by the acts they commit because, as we read, “they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.”
Proverbs 24:1 says, “We should not envy wicked man or desire their company.” We need to run from anything that is evil and not be attracted to it. When we see injustice in different forms, we can help by providing food, clothes, or shelter for the needy. What evil men do to achieve their goals and wealth is not commendable; they will wilt like tender green plants. With them, their wealth and their short-lived happiness will die.
So, we should keep our eyes fixed on what is eternal and not on what is perishable. “Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1-2).
Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me always keep my eyes fixed on You and on what pleases You. Amen!
