Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

In Psalm 55, David is emotionally distressed due to the betrayal of Ahithophel, his advisor, who joined Absalom’s rebellion. Ahithophel counselled Absalom, which increased the threat to David’s reign. David is distraught because it is treachery from someone he deeply trusted, a close friend (Psalm 55:13-14).

In the midst of people being angry at him and threatening him, what does David do? He wanted to flee the situation; instead, he put his trust in the Lord and waited patiently for God to deliver him. He called out to God for help, as we ought to (1 Peter 5:7).

While his enemies oppressed him and attempted a political coup, David cried out to God for His mercy. David loved God and placed his complete faith in Him alone.

We also ought to:

– Trust in God, especially when troubles appear.

– Relinquish all control to God.

– Believe that we will have victory in the name of Jesus.

David concluded the psalm confident that God would save him and overthrow his enemies. Let us learn to put our faith in God alone, not in our money, our position, our connections, the family we belong to, etc.

Godliness doesn’t relieve us of trials and enemies. However, as Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Today, meditate on this psalm, and may the Holy Spirit speak to you as you read it.
