Held by Goodness and Mercy

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.

Psalm 23 ends with a comforting promise. David describes what it means to live close to God – a life where the Lord provides, protects, and welcomes him into His presence. David is confident that God’s goodness and mercy are not temporary blessings but constant companions throughout his life. Even when facing enemies or walking through difficult valleys, David knew he was never alone.

God’s mercy is endless. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that His mercies are new every morning. Just as the sun is always rising somewhere in the world, God’s mercy is always covering us. His love never runs out. His goodness never fades. Every day, we walk surrounded by His care and compassion.

Today’s verse teaches us that God’s goodness and mercy follow us, and we are called to leave a trail of that same goodness and mercy in the lives of others. Through patience, forgiveness, and love, we reflect God’s heart.

David concludes, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” This is our hope – not only that God is with us now, but also that we will be with Him forever. No matter what valleys we face, we walk with confidence knowing our Shepherd is leading us home.

God’s presence brings peace. His love gives hope. His goodness follows us each day until we dwell with Him forever.

Prayer: Lord, help me walk in Your goodness today and leave a trail of Your mercy wherever I go.
