Psalm 21:6
For You have made him most blessed forever; You have made him exceedingly glad with Your presence.
This verse was written about a king, but it speaks a truth for every believer: true blessing isn’t found in wealth, status, or comfort; it’s found in the presence of God. The psalmist doesn’t say the king was made glad by his crown or his victories. He was made glad by God’s presence. Nearness to God is the deepest joy a person can know, deeper than any earthly achievement could ever provide.
Think of Moses. After the golden calf incident, when Israel had failed God so badly, Moses could have asked for many things – vindication, resources, an easier path. Instead, in Exodus 33:15, he pleaded, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Moses understood what David wrote in this psalm: nothing matters more than God going with us. Later, when Moses asked to see God’s glory, his face began to shine. He was changed simply by being near God (Exodus 34:29).
That’s the pattern of Psalm 21:6. Blessing flows from presence. Gladness flows from nearness. Not from what God gives us, but from God Himself, and that truth still holds for us today.
We often chase happiness through achievements or circumstances, only to find that it fades. But the joy that comes from God’s presence is described as “exceeding” – overflowing, unshakeable, forever. It’s available in prayer, in worship, in quiet obedience, in simply turning our hearts toward Him.
Today, don’t just ask God for things. Ask for Him. Sit in His presence. Let that be enough. That is where forever-blessing and unshakable gladness truly begin.
