A Clean Slate

Psalm 103:12 – “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

A quick glance at the world map would tell you that America lies in the west and Japan lies in the east. But is it really so? A two-dimensional map gives us a skewed version of what the earth really looks like. In contrast, a three-dimensional globe reveals that there is no definite east or west in reality. While we do have a North Pole and South Pole, we don’t have any end points in the east or in the west.

The Bible says that God has removed our sins from us, as far as the east is from the west. So, if east never really meets the west, it can only mean that God has removed our sins infinitely away from us. When Jesus was nailed to the cross, He conquered sin and death once and for all. When we repent of our sins and accept the Lord’s forgiveness, our sins are wiped away, leaving no trace behind.

There’s a saying that when God forgives us, He takes away our sins, throws them in the deepest lake and puts up a sign that says, “No Fishing Allowed”. When God keeps no record of our sins, let’s not dredge up the past and feel guilty about it. In Christ you are a new creation. You get to start over with a clean slate, but how you choose to fill it up now is up to you.
