Psalm 98:1
Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
These beautiful words begin Psalm 98, a joyful song of praise to God for His salvation, righteousness, and power. The psalm calls all people and all creation to rejoice in the Lord. Through singing and musical instruments, it encourages the celebration of God’s victory, faithfulness, and enduring love.
The idea of a “new song” reflects gratitude and devotion. As believers, we are called to offer fresh praise for what God has done in our lives. After crossing the Red Sea, Miriam sang a new song of deliverance. Later, when God gave victory through Deborah, another new song arose. Each song was a unique response to God’s mighty works.
A new song is born when we remember the wonderful things God has done. The phrase, “His right hand and His holy arm,” points to God’s power, strength, and ability to save. By His own might, He gained the victory and delivered His people.
When Israel was trapped and helpless, God did not ask them to rely on their own strength. He stepped in and fought for them. In the same way, when we face difficulties, we can trust Him instead of trying to carry every burden ourselves.
A new song begins when we stop focusing on the size of our problems and start focusing on the greatness of our God. Even if our circumstances haven’t changed, our hearts can. We can replace fear and worry with praise and trust, believing that the God who has done marvelous things before will do them again.
