Ask your Father for a blessing

Joshua 15:19 – “She said to him, ‘Give me a blessing. Since you have given me the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.’ And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.”

This is a little lesser known verse in the Old Testament, but one that can teach us a lot. Caleb, one of the good men in Israel, needed help defeating some men who had taken possession of his land. And he gave his daughter, Achsah in marriage to the man who helped him defeat his enemies. As part of the marriage gift, he gave his daughter the land of Negeb – a dry, arid land.

Achsah was not too happy about it and decided to pay her father a visit. Verse 18 says that as she alighted from her donkey, Caleb asks her, “What do you want?” The father knew his daughter needed something from him. When we approach our heavenly Father, He already knows we need something from Him – and He will gladly listen to our request.

Achsah acts within the rights she has as a daughter. She asks her father for a land with springs, because he had placed her in a dry land. Sometimes, God places us in a dry land. We feel devoid of any blessings and even spiritually dry. In such a season, remember you can always approach your Father in heaven and ask Him for a blessing. He will provide you with springs of Living Water to keep you hydrated. Do not grow weary. God will sustain you in the wilderness, and lead you out triumphantly.
