Psalm 28:7
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.”
Psalm 28 is a prayer for deliverance. David was a man of God and a warrior. He understood the importance of two things: strength and protection. God gave David the strength to endure and be victorious against his enemies, and God was also his shield, protecting him from those who opposed him. David’s trust was deep-seated, and his trust was rewarded.
As we read this, the world is in complete unrest. The situations we face don’t attack us with swords and spears, but physically, emotionally, and economically, they tend to damage us. We may feel helpless and clueless about how to go ahead. When things fall apart, where do we seek strength and protection? Where do we place our trust? Sometimes we trust the resources we have—people around us or someone with greater influence—to help us, but is it a firm foundation we place our trust on? As Psalm 20:7 says, some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD, our God—our strongest foundation.
If we recall many occasions when the Lord strengthened and protected us, we know each test brings an opportunity for great testimony and gratitude.
