John 16:22 NKJV
“Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.”
Goodbyes are hard, aren’t they? When you know you won’t be seeing someone for a while, it fills you with a sorrow that lingers for long. When the Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples that He was living the last days before His death, He knew the sorrow that would flood their soul. But He also offered them some much needed hope. He would see them again and their hearts would rejoice.
We’re living on the other side of this story. We know Jesus died and rose again. He appeared to His disciples and ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit then came down to reside in every person who believes in Jesus Christ. Now we have the presence of God in our lives, day and night.
While we may experience sorrow, pain, grief and loss as long as we live on the earth, we also have access to the pure, unadulterated joy that can radiate from a life that is entirely surrendered to the will of God. When you’re confident that the Lord is in charge of your life, you will be able to face your troubles head on, knowing that this life is not the end. You also have eternity to spend with the Lord who gave His very life for you.
