For His Spirit Dwells in Us

Ezekiel 36:27

“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Ezekiel was one of 10,000 people taken into exile by the Babylonians after the fall of Jerusalem, and many of his prophecies were spoken while he was in exile. The prophets time and again spoke of when God would draw the Israelites back to himself for a season of prosperity, only for them to rebel and worship idols again. But this scripture in Ezekiel speaks about something so precious, lasting, and more than that.

A man whose heart was adamant and full of self-centered passion towards earthly desires was to be renewed and replaced with a clean heart, in which the Holy Spirit of God Himself was to dwell. That is the beautiful and everlasting gift we have received from God.

“I will put My Spirit within you,” What does this mean?

God promises to remove the stony and stubborn heart that prevents us from repenting and changing our ways according to His will. When His Spirit dwells in us, we think differently, act differently, and treat people around us with kindness and compassion. We will be quick to forgive and slow to anger. And that is how we walk in His statutes.
