GO AHEAD: LIE DOWN AND REST

Matthew 11:28 –

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Don’t you miss the feeling of being picked up as a child and held by the strong arms of an adult?
Here in this verse Jesus is inviting us – to secure us, and to also give us relief from our labor and heavy burden.

However, the lifestyle we live today does not encourage much rest. We are constantly being stimulated, especially visually and mentally by just the cell phone we use. This device has kept us busy and alert with messages, photos, videos, and mostly, bad news from the media.

Furthermore, worse than the natural and old fashioned physical labor, the mental labor we have to do daily exhausts us to the point that mental rest is difficult to obtain.

Jesus wants and commands us to go to Him! Isn’t this wonderful? That we have a God that can actually relieve us from the stress and burden we carry on our own? He says that His “yoke is easy and His burden is light.” (Matthew 11:30).

Our God is a God who gives us rest, and this is His promise! He wants us to have a balanced life of work, but He also wants us to rest, physically and emotionally. Psalm 23:2 reads: “He makes me lie down in green pastures.”

This is Our God: He carries us, holds our weight in every sense of the word, and gives us rest. Amen!
