Psalm 34:17

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

Today’s verse offers comfort and encouragement to those who cry out to the Lord. It reminds us that the Lord hears the cry of the righteous and delivers them from their troubles. The term righteous not only refers to someone who is morally upright, but also to one who is in a right relationship with the Lord. The righteous fear the Lord (Psalm 34:9), trust in Him (Psalm 34:8), and seek Him wholeheartedly (Psalm 34:10).

When we stand before God, we cannot rely on our own righteousness, which is like filthy rags in the presence of His holiness. Yet through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, we who were once sinners are considered righteous in God’s sight (2 Corinthians 5:21). We can approach the throne of God boldly, with confidence that we will receive the mercy and grace we need (Hebrews 4:16).

Do you feel dejected and worn out? Cry out to the Lord in prayer. Rest in the assurance that He hears you. God will deliver you from your troubles. Keep seeking the Lord and remain in a right relationship with Him. His presence will go before you and lead you to the other side of your storm.

Lent signifies a time of spiritual preparation and renewal. Today, take a few minutes to quieten your heart and trust that God knows your needs. Allow Him to strengthen you so you don’t grow weary in the waiting. You can rely on His grace to sustain you today and every day.
