Psalm 106:48
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, Amen! Praise the Lord!
Psalm 106 is a song of communal praise that recognises the goodness of God, His enduring love, and His mighty acts. The psalm recounts the Israelites’ past sins, their disobedience, and how they forgot their covenant with the Lord. They rebelled against Him and experienced the effects of His righteous anger. Yet God saw their distress and heard their cry (Psalm 106:44). He remembered His covenant with His people and relented (Psalm 106:45).
Though the people were faithless, God remained faithful. His love and mercy carried them through. That is why the psalm ends with a call for the community to praise the Lord who has been good to them. Like the Israelites, we too forget all the good that God has done for us, but God is merciful and gracious towards us.
He reigns from everlasting to everlasting. He knows everything that was, and is, and is to come. Yet He is patient with us and does not treat us as our sins deserve (Psalm 103:10). He is both just and merciful. We may face the repercussions of our sins, but He redeems our past and prepares us for a glorious future with Him. Our response to His grace is a life lived in obedience to His will – a life that proclaims His eternal praise.
Let this season of Lent kindle gratitude in your heart for God’s unending mercy and grace. Take a moment to praise Him today and give Him all the glory due to His name. Then surrender yourself to be a living testimony of His great love.
